MICHAEL JACKSON "BEAT IT" T-SHIRT

Lot closed - Winning bid:$45,000

A 1980s designer sleeveless turquoise shirt with an image of cherubs surrounding a heart, with text reading text "n'y a plus que l'amour / sauf amour." The shirt features quite prominently in Jackson's video for his third single from the Thriller album, "Beat It." Jackson was photographed frequently wearing the same shirt and red zipper jacket combination featured in the video at many public events during this era. The shirt was given to Bradley Bennett whom Jackson had befriended. Bennett and Jackson met while attending services at the same Jehovah's Witness church. At the time of their meeting, in 1983, Bennett was eleven years old. He and Jackson became friends and Bennett visited Jackson at his home on more than one occasion. Jackson gifted this shirt to Bennett after the release of the video telling him that he wore it in the video. Although Jackson likely owned a few copies of this t-shirt as he wore it throughout the production of the 'Beat It' video, Jackson told Bennett that this was "the" shirt he wore during the video shoot. Included is a letter handwritten by Bradley Bennett outlining how he met and received this shirt from Jackson.

MICHAEL JACKSON WEDDING CEREMONY JACKET

Lot closed - Winning bid:$66,000

A black wool military style jacket with button front closure and two front chest pockets. The jacket features buttons with crown over crest logos reading "The Welch Regiment", red and gold falcon patches at shoulders, with matching patches on purple, gold and red eppaulets, with signature armband on right arm in burgundy silk. This is the jacket Michael Jackson was wearing when he married Debbie Rowe in Sydney Australia November 14, 1996. Jackson was in Australia for his 1996 - 1997 HIStory world tour. In addition to marrying the mother of his children, Jackson attended a premiere for his short film "Ghosts." It was widely documented in the Australian media that Jackson contacted the Brent Street School of Performing Arts to see if some of the children from the school could accompany him to the premiere. The children readily accepted the invitation and attended the premiere only to be caught in a mob rush on Jackson after the screening. Jackson invited all of the children back to his hotel with him to make sure they were all alright. Once at the hotel Jackson held a party in his room for the children including ice cream and pillow fights. The children were allowed to pick one of Jackson's personal wardrobe items to keep as a gift at the end of the evening. Adam De Roma picked this jacket that Jackson had just worn during his marriage ceremony to Debbie Rowe. Laminated news articles including images of De Roma wearing the jacket with other children who also attended the party as well as news photos of Jackson wearing the jacket during the marriage ceremony are included with this lot.
